Proactive Personnel Ltd are recruiting on behalf of our long-standing client for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join their growing engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled mechanical professional to work within a busy industrial environment, carrying out assembly, maintenance, repair, and installation work on a range of mechanical equipment and machinery. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, maintain, and repair a variety of mechanical equipment and machinery.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities and respond to breakdowns as required.
- Diagnose faults and undertake effective repairs to minimise operational downtime.
- Replace worn, damaged, or defective components using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Align motors, pumps, gearboxes, fans, and other rotating equipment to required tolerances.
- Conduct maintenance activities on rotating machinery and associated mechanical systems.
- Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and maintenance documentation.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment safely and effectively.
- Complete maintenance reports and relevant documentation accurately.
- Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, or similar engineering role.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and technical drawings.
- Good understanding of mechanical systems including pumps, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Strong fault‑finding and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills.
- Experience working within manufacturing, industrial, or engineering environments would be advantageous.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Maintenance Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship.
- Relevant Health & Safety training and awareness.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, Apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience working with rotating equipment and alignment techniques.
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and continuous improvement practices.
