Purpose
The Technical Estimator is responsible for reviewing and pricing enquiries throughout the pre‑construction process, from initial enquiry to project handover. This includes developing a clear understanding of project scope and specifications, coordinating supplier engagement, managing commercial costings, and ensuring all information is accurately captured, reviewed, and communicated. This role plays a key part in ensuring all technical, commercial, and programme‑related aspects of a project are fully considered, with clear documentation and alignment across pre‑construction, commercial, and delivery teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Review enquiry documents and project scope
- Produce scope reviews for Pre‑Construction Manager sign‑off
- Create and manage RFI, RFQ, and derogation schedules
- Raise and manage specification and scope clarifications
- Identify gross profit (GP) opportunities within enquiries
- Manage supplier communication and review supplier quotations
- Input and manage project costings within commercial costing sheets
- Price access, delivery, and installation using automated costing tools
- Complete Major Works Proposal documentation
- Present costings at internal review meetings
- Manage post‑tender queries and revised quotations
- Support business development with scope reviews when required
- Prepare handover packs including all pricing and decision documentation
- Complete specification and scope checklists prior to handover
- Price design variations, add/omits, and scope changes
- Obtain multiple subcontractor quotations for installation works
- Prepare GP lock‑in and pricing breakdown packs for delivery teams

Creates and proactively manages RFI, RFQ, and derogation schedules across live enquiries. Ensures all queries are tracked, issued, and closed out in a timely manner. Maintains visibility of outstanding items and escalates risks where required. - Supply Chain & Quotation Management
Engages suppliers efficiently and manages RFQs proactively. Responds promptly to supplier queries to maintain programme timelines. Reviews supplier quotations thoroughly for specification, scope, and pricing accuracy. Identifies and challenges discrepancies between requested scope and supplier returns. - Commercial & Cost Management
Accurately inputs and manages project costings within commercial systems. Confidently prices access, delivery, and installation using automated tools. Secures a minimum of three competitive subcontractor quotations per project. Prices variations, add/omits, and scope changes accurately. - GP Awareness & Commercial Performance
Proactively identifies and communicates GP opportunities. Demonstrates strong commercial awareness across scope, pricing, and strategy. Contributes to margin improvement through supplier engagement and scope challenge. - Proposal, Client & Internal Communication
Produces high‑quality Major Works Proposals with all required documentation. Presents costings clearly at internal review meetings. Manages post‑tender queries and revised quotations effectively. Supports business development with timely and accurate scope reviews. - Handover & Delivery Support
Delivers clear, structured handover packs upon project award. Documents assumptions, decisions, and pricing strategies. Completes all specification and scope checklists prior to handover. Prepares GP lock‑in packs and detailed pricing breakdowns. Ensures delivery teams receive all required information for successful execution.
