We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Health Officer to join a busy Port Health Service team in Southampton. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated professional looking to contribute to public health protection, environmental compliance, and regulatory enforcement within a dynamic local authority environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake surveys, investigations, and research activities relating to environmental and public health matters.
  • Carry out inspections, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports, legal notices, schedules, committee reports, and correspondence.
  • Take appropriate enforcement action, including legal proceedings where necessary, in accordance with City Council policy.
  • Inspect plans and assess development proposals relevant to divisional responsibilities, providing professional advice and recommendations.
  • Interpret and administer current legislation, policies, and regulatory requirements while keeping up to date with industry developments and legislative changes.
  • Attend and represent the Port Health Service at committee meetings, public inquiries, and external events as required.
  • Support senior officers with specialist functional responsibilities within the Port Health Service.
  • Liaise effectively with internal departments, external agencies, and partner organisations to support coordinated service delivery and policy development.
