An award‑winning multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Principal Geotechnical / Geo-environmental Engineer to join its growing Sheffield team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and commercially aware professional to lead complex site investigation and contaminated land projects while playing a key role in the continued growth of the geo‑environmental and geotechnical team. The role offers a genuine pathway toward Technical Director / Director level within a supportive and well‑established consultancy environment.

The Role

  • You will lead and manage a broad range of geo‑environmental and contaminated land projects across sectors including residential, commercial, industrial, infrastructure and regeneration.
  • The role will involve overseeing site investigations and remediation works, preparing and reviewing technical reports and risk assessments, managing project delivery and mentoring junior engineers within the team.
  • You will work closely with senior leadership while also supporting business development, client relationships and project growth across the wider Yorkshire region and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead geo‑environmental and contaminated land projects from inception through to completion
  • Design, procure and supervise site investigations and remediation works
  • Prepare and review: Phase 1 and Phase 2 Reports, Remediation Strategies, Verification Reports, Quantitative Risk Assessments
  • Interpret factual and interpretative site investigation data
  • Manage project budgets, programmes and resource allocation
  • Provide technical leadership and quality assurance across the team
  • Mentor junior engineers and graduates
  • Support bids, tenders and wider business development activities
  • Maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards

What We're Looking For

  • Degree qualified in Geology or related discipline
  • Significant UK consultancy experience within geo‑environmental engineering / contaminated land
  • Strong understanding of UK contaminated land legislation and guidance
  • Experience managing projects and technical teams
  • Excellent report writing and communication skills
  • Commercial awareness and strong client‑facing ability
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Chartered status with the Geological Society, ICE or similar professional body
