We are partnering with a leading Joint Venture delivering one of the UK's most iconic and complex infrastructure projects. This is a rare opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to move away from a traditional site-based role and become a strategic pillar within a high-performing Design Team. Based in a modern office in South London, you will be responsible for the commercial integrity of the Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health, Fire, and Communications systems during the critical design and pre‑construction phases. You will ensure that world‑class engineering remains commercially viable, compliant, and cost‑effective as it moves from the drawing board to reality.

The Role

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will bridge the gap between technical engineering excellence and robust financial management, providing real‑time commercial advice to the wider project team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design team through the initial phases, providing commercial risk advice and driving value engineering.
  • Lead the administration of NEC3/4 (Options A, C, & E) contracts, including investigating and drafting EWNs, Compensation Events, and General Communications.
  • Lead the negotiation and procurement of complex subcontract packages (Design–Delivery–Commission), testing the robustness of costs and ensuring maximum value for money.
  • Manage and report on all commercial aspects of allocated workstreams, including CVRs, cash flow forecasting, and margin improvement plans.
  • Establish and manage entitlement under the terms of the subcontract, leading the review and valuation of contractor applications for payment.
  • Build and maintain high‑level relationships with the client's commercial teams and external design partners to ensure smooth project progression.

Requirements

  • Degree‑level qualification in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial discipline.
  • Extensive experience administering NEC3/4 (specifically Options A, C, and E).
  • Proficiency in CEMAR is highly desirable.
  • A proven track record on major UK Rail or Infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with MEP/Systems is a significant advantage.
  • Experience mentoring and developing assistant or intermediate‑level commercial team members.
  • High energy, a strategic focus on long‑term relationships, and the ability to hold stakeholders to account.

Benefits

  • Starting salary of £50,000 to £80,000
  • £5,000 car/travel allowance
  • Contributory pension
  • Private healthcare
  • 25 days leave + bank holidays
