You will be required to work from the office on a hybrid basis, 4 days a week, in Leamington Spa.
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer you will join an experienced team to complete HVAC designs for residential, commercial, retail, colleges, storage units, museums and healthcare facilities.
Responsibilities
- Complete detailed mechanical designs including heating, ventilation, domestic hot and cold water systems and air-conditioning using AutoCAD and Revit.
- Create 2D and 3D models, perform heat load calculations, thermal comfort modelling (TM52/TM59), IES energy modelling and digital twin simulation, duct sizing, pipe sizing, and equipment selection using relevant software (e.g. Revit, AutoCAD, HAP, or Elite).
- Prepare and review mechanical drawings, schematics, simulations and technical specifications in accordance with building codes, sustainability goals, and project requirements.
- Site visits to check design clashes, monitor installation quality and verify compliance with original designs.
- Heating and cooling load assessments.
- Designing to BIM level 2 in accordance with British Standards PAS 1192-5.
- Low-carbon system design (ASHPs, GSHPs, WSHPs, VRF/VRV).
- Mechanical ventilation & heat recovery (MVHR).
- Building Management System (BMS) integration.
- Attend internal/external meetings with clients and contractors on site to resolve design issues/queries and align project objectives.
- Review designs submitted by the team and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information).
- Liaise with design teams, architectural teams and site engineers to ensure designs are installed to specifications and client requirements.
- Client meetings to discuss design briefs and project progress.
- Evaluate new materials and designs ensuring energy efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications
Expected to have a BSc and/or MSc in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering and experience working for UK-based consultancy completing detailed HVAC designs for residential, commercial, healthcare and industrial units using AutoCAD and Revit. You are also required to have experience managing projects, mentoring team members and have detailed knowledge of PAS 1192-5, RIBA stage 4 and other relevant codes. You will also be expected to have a keen understanding of BREEAM and net zero and live within commutable distance of Leamington Spa.
