About the Role

Spencer Ogden is supporting a leading offshore wind developer in the search for an experienced Senior Geophysical Engineer to support the successful delivery of offshore geophysical surveys and geohazard management activities across a portfolio of operational offshore wind farms in the UK and Europe. This position sits within the Ground Engineering team and will play a critical role in supporting Operations & Maintenance (O&M) activities through the management, interpretation, and delivery of high-quality geophysical survey data and associated engineering solutions. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced offshore geophysics professional looking to work on complex, large-scale renewable energy projects within a highly collaborative technical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage offshore geophysical site investigation activities across operational offshore wind assets.
  • Take responsibility for the successful delivery of geophysical survey campaigns, ensuring alignment with programme, budget, and technical specifications.
  • Support the development of survey strategies, scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Manage external consultants and Owner’s Engineers responsible for survey management, offshore representation, and data quality control.
  • Provide technical expertise on survey methodologies, acquisition techniques, and equipment selection.
  • Support tendering activities, technical evaluations, and contractual negotiations for survey packages.
  • Identify and mitigate geophysical and geohazard risks associated with offshore operations and maintenance activities.
  • Support seabed and sub‑seabed risk management relating to cables, scour, scour protection, and turbine maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with offshore regulations, industry standards, and health, safety, and environmental requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, innovation projects, and the development of best practices across offshore geophysical operations.
  • Support the development and maintenance of geophysical procedures, standards, and technical documentation.

Requirements

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Degree qualified in Geophysics, Geology, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in offshore geophysical survey acquisition, processing, and interpretation.
  • Proven experience with O&M-related survey methods including:
    • Multi‑Beam Echo Sounder (MBES)
    • Side Scan Sonar (SSS)
  • Experience managing offshore survey campaigns across large-scale projects.
  • Knowledge of cable, pipeline, and asset inspection surveys.
  • Experience balancing technical, commercial, and programme requirements.
  • Strong understanding of offshore wind operational stakeholders and project interfaces.
  • Experience using industry‑standard software such as:
    • SonarWiz
    • CARIS
    • GIS platforms
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong report writing and technical documentation capability.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with tendering and commercial management of survey packages.
  • Magnetometer and UXO survey experience.
  • Ground model development using geophysical datasets.
  • Chartered status, or working toward chartership, with a relevant professional institution.
  • Experience supporting innovation or technology development initiatives within offshore renewables.

Additional Information

  • Hybrid office-based role with occasional site attendance for vessel mobilisation activities.
  • No regular offshore rotation required.
  • Contractor to provide PPE and IT equipment.
  • Standard notice period: 4 weeks.
