35 Hour Week - Employee-Owned Company

I’m currently recruiting for a Fire Alarm Engineer to join a highly regarded, employee-owned fire protection company covering Reading and the surrounding areas (within roughly 1 hour 30 minutes travel). This is a fantastic opportunity to join a company known for its excellent engineer retention, supportive culture and long-term stability. It’s the type of business where engineers stay for years, not months. If you’re looking for a role where you’re trusted, valued and properly rewarded, this is definitely one to consider.

The Role

  • You’ll be responsible for the service, maintenance and fault finding of fire alarm systems across a range of commercial and managed sites within your local patch.
  • Key responsibilities include:
    • Servicing and maintaining fire alarm systems
    • Fault finding and reactive repairs
    • Carrying out routine testing and inspections
    • Ensuring systems remain compliant with industry standards
    • Providing a professional and reliable service to clients on site

Experience with Gent or Notifier systems would be highly beneficial.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Employee-owned business – after 12 months you gain shares in the company
  • High engineer retention – people rarely leave once they join
  • 35‑hour working week providing a great work‑life balance
  • Door‑to‑door travel paid
  • Overtime available to increase earnings
  • Local coverage around Reading and surrounding areas

It’s a company that genuinely looks after its engineers and builds long-term careers.

What They’re Looking For

  • Experience working with fire alarm systems
  • Ideally knowledge of Gent or Notifier systems
  • Strong servicing and fault‑finding ability
  • Professional and customer‑focused approach
  • Full UK driving licence

Salary & Package

  • £38,000 – £45,000 basic salary depending on experience
  • Door-to-door travel paid
  • Overtime available
  • 35-hour working week
  • Employee ownership scheme (shares after 1 year)
  • Long-term career stability

Interested? If you’re a Fire Alarm Engineer based in or around Reading and you’re looking for a role offering stability, great benefits and a company that genuinely values its engineers, I’d be happy to speak with you.
