Quantity Surveyor in Leeds, West Yorkshire

Overview

A well-established, multi-disciplinary construction contractor is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor (QS) to join their growing commercial team. This role offers ownership of projects and a key role in delivery across a range of sectors including commercial, residential, education, healthcare, leisure, and industrial. Projects are typically valued between £5m – £20m and are based in Yorkshire.

The Role

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be commercially responsible for one or multiple projects from pre-construction through to final account, working closely with the wider project team for cost control, risk management, and commercial performance throughout.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all commercial aspects of projects from inception to completion.
• Prepare detailed cost plans, budgets, and tender documentation.
• Lead the procurement process, including subcontractor selection and negotiation.
• Submit and agree interim valuations and final accounts.
• Manage variations, change control, and contract administration.
• Produce accurate cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
• Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams.
• Support junior members of the commercial team where required.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor environment.
• Experience delivering projects within the £5m – £20m range.
• Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract (e.g., JCT).
• Commercially astute with strong negotiation skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
• Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
