We are seeking an experienced and proactive Quality Engineer to join our growing team based in Droitwich. This role is critical in ensuring the highest standards of quality across our mechanical and electromechanical fabrication and modular plant projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in inspection coordination, compliance management, problem solving, and continuous improvement activities while working closely with production teams, suppliers, and clients to ensure products are delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspection & Verification
- Oversee and coordinate incoming, in-process, and final inspection activities to ensure compliance with quality standards and project specifications.
- Implement effective quality sampling methods to improve inspection efficiency and consistency.
- Carry out dimensional inspections against GA drawings and isometrics, including bolt torque verification, gasket checks, flow direction validation, and tagging inspections.
- Coordinate NDT activities (VT, PT/MT, RT/UT as applicable), review inspection reports, and manage close‑out actions.
- Provide technical guidance and support to inspectors to ensure accurate and consistent inspection practices.
- Standards, Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all builds conform to specifications, P&IDs, isometrics, applicable industry codes, and standards including ISO 9001 QMS, PED/UKCA, ASME/EN pipework standards, and electrical standards where relevant.
- Maintain material and device traceability, including heat-number traceability and calibrated equipment control.
- Develop and maintain Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), quality plans, inspection checklists, and weld maps.
- Manage NCRs, concessions, corrective actions, and quality documentation processes.
- Produce complete data books and turnover dossiers including MTCs, WPS/PQR/WPQR records, welder qualifications, NDT reports, pressure test documentation, electrical test certificates, and FAT/SAT reports.
- Problem Solving & Continuous Improvement
- Lead NCR investigations using structured problem‑solving tools such as 5 Whys and Ishikawa analysis.
- Monitor SPC defects, first-pass yield, and defect Pareto trends to identify and address recurring issues.
- Collaborate with Design and Production teams to drive manufacturability improvements, standardisation initiatives, and poka‑yoke solutions.
- Collaboration & Leadership
- Support and coach welders, fitters, and assembly technicians on inspection criteria, pressure-test safety, cleanliness standards, and E&I testing methods.
- Participate in production stand‑ups and readiness reviews, providing clear quality updates and risk assessments.
- Host client and third‑party inspectors, manage witness/hold points, and ensure professional closure of inspection comments.
Skills & Experience Required
- Hands‑on experience within mechanical/electromechanical fabrication or modular plant construction environments.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, GA drawings, electrical schematics, and technical data sheets.
- Experience with precision measurement equipment, pressure testing systems, torque control methods, and electrical testing equipment.
- Good understanding of welding quality standards, material traceability, and common NDT methods.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and project documentation control processes.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across shop floor teams, suppliers, clients, and inspectors.
Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or experience with SPC and CAPA methodologies.
- Knowledge of PED/UKCA, ASME B31.x/EN piping codes, pressure testing standards, ATEX considerations, and BMS/I/O FATs.
- Familiarity with E&I testing including continuity testing, insulation resistance testing, loop checks, and basic VFD setup.
