We are working with a well-established civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering major projects across the Rail, Energy, Highways and Renewables sectors throughout the UK. The business has built a strong reputation for successfully delivering complex infrastructure schemes in partnership with leading utility providers, public sector clients, and framework agreements. Their projects are fast-paced, technically challenging, and focused on long-term sustainable infrastructure delivery.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of secured work, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team based in Hampshire, working across major SSE framework projects and Renewables schemes nationwide. The Quantity Surveyor will play a key role within the commercial team, supporting project delivery while ensuring strong commercial performance, accurate reporting, cost control, and maximisation of project profitability.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Commercial Manager in the successful commercial delivery of multiple projects
- Manage applications for payment and support credit control processes
- Monitor and maximise project income and profitability
- Manage costing, forecasting, and commercial reporting across schemes
- Oversee change control procedures and manage variations
- Assist in the management and mitigation of commercial and contractual risk
- Produce and manage Cost to Complete (CTC) reports and CVRs
- Manage the full subcontractor lifecycle, including procurement, payments, and final accounts
- Provide commercial advice and support to operational and project delivery teams
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships within the commercial team, project teams, clients, and subcontractors
- Assist with dispute avoidance and resolution processes
- Support tendering and pre-construction commercial activities where required
- Mentor and support Assistant Quantity Surveyors within the team
- Travel to projects across the UK as required
Tickets / Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
- HND/HNC in a relevant construction or commercial discipline considered
- Working towards professional qualification such as RICS or CICES desirable
- Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
- Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, particularly Excel
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational and commercial management ability
- Confident mentoring and supporting junior team members
Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or renewables
- MUST have experience working on Rail, Energy, Highways, or Renewables projects
- Experience working within a main contractor or infrastructure contractor environment
- Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, CVRs, and subcontract management
- Experience administering NEC contracts highly desirable
- Track record of supporting profitable project delivery across multiple schemes
- Comfortable working in fast-paced project environments and managing multiple priorities
- Experience working on framework agreements or utility projects beneficial
