A leading construction contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager (No.2) to support the delivery of a landmark £72 million new build college project in South Tyneside. Working alongside the Lead Project Manager, you will play a key role in the successful coordination and delivery of this major education scheme from construction through to handover. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly respected contractor with a strong pipeline of large-scale public sector projects across the UK.
The Role
- Acting as the No.2 Project Manager on site, you will bridge the gap between senior project leadership and the operational site teams, ensuring programme, quality, safety, and commercial objectives are achieved.
- You will be heavily involved in day-to-day project coordination, subcontractor management, stakeholder liaison, reporting, and driving programme performance on a technically challenging, high-profile development.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the Lead Project Manager in the overall delivery of the project
- Managing and coordinating site teams, subcontractors, and supply chain partners
- Monitoring programme performance and assisting with short-term planning
- Ensuring health, safety, environmental, and quality standards are maintained
- Attending and leading progress meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Assisting with risk management, logistics coordination, and issue resolution
- Reviewing progress against project milestones and reporting accordingly
- Maintaining strong communication between management, design, and site operations teams
- Supporting client relationship management throughout the build process
- Contributing to successful project handover and completion
Requirements
- Proven experience working for a main contractor in a Project Manager or Senior Site Manager capacity
- Experience delivering large-scale new build projects, ideally within education, healthcare, commercial, or public sector environments
- Strong understanding of construction processes, programme management, and site operations
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- Ability to coordinate multiple workstreams within a live construction environment
- SMSTS, CSCS, and First Aid qualifications
- Degree or HNC/HND in Construction Management or related discipline advantageous
