The placement year

You will spend 12 months working for the Defence & Government Services Procurement department, starting your placement by spending a month getting to know all about our business. We have a broad reach and work with a number of different clients and stakeholders, so it’s important to gain an understanding of what we do. You will then spend your placement within the Procurement department working across Purchasing and Supply Chain operations alongside the team. You will get the opportunity to gain practical real-world experience while deploying the skills you have gained at university and learning more by working on specific projects with our range of professional colleagues. You will receive guidance and mentoring and will work across departments to broaden your supply chain knowledge and elevate your future career opportunities.

Key responsibilities

  • Supplier management - ensuring exceptional performance to deliver high service levels, including supplier visits.
  • Manage purchase orders to ensure sufficient order cover and stock to meet customer demands using system recommendations.
  • Work with the Procurement new business team to identify sources of supply at competitive levels in order that the business can achieve its annual growth targets.
  • Ensure a focus on sustainability throughout all procurement processes and activity both internally and across our 3,000+ suppliers.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities working cross-functionally to enhance benefits.
