As a Principal Structural Engineer you will design and analyse complex steel structures using Eurocodes, British Standards and BAE standards, applying expertise in regulations such as LOLER, Codes of Compliance, Weld Specifications and Geometric Tolerance. You will interpret data from analytical techniques and support manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling and installation of submarine structures.
Core Duties
- Design and analyse complex steel structures utilising Eurocodes, British Standards and BAE standards.
- Apply expertise in regulations and requirements beyond BAE Systems, including LOLER, Codes of Compliance, Weld Specifications and Geometric Tolerance.
- Interpret data within a range of computer‑based analytical techniques.
- Support manufacturing, assembly, lifting, handling and installation processes of submarine structures.
- Produce concept drawings, layouts and other technical outputs.
- Check and approve calculations.
Essential Skills
- Hold an Engineering Degree (BEng/MEng) or equivalent experience.
- Have Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status nearing CEng.
- Good expertise within structural steel analysis and design.
- Fully conversant with Eurocodes and British Standards.
- Proficient in reviewing and checking design outputs.
- Experience in mechanical engineering and/or structural steelwork with knowledge of lifting, handling and LOLER.
