Principal Mechanical Engineer

My client are looking for a Experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a passion for low-energy and sustainable building solutions.

The business are a boutique building services consultancy based in London, renowned for their commitment to developing innovative, sustainable solutions for buildings in and around the city as a trusted contractor partner, they work closely with their clients throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial design to practical completion.

Role Overview:

As the Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will lead the technical discipline across multiple projects, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, energy-efficient, and sustainable building solutions. You will mentor and guide junior engineers, while also engaging in hands‑on design work. This role demands excellent communication skills, as you will liaise with a variety of stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead mechanical engineering projects from initial concept through to practical completion.
  • Develop and implement low-energy and sustainable building solutions.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional growth.
  • Engage in design work, ensuring technical excellence and innovation.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring clear and effective communication.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
  • Oversee project budgets, timelines, and resources to ensure successful project outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in building services consultancy.
  • Proven track record in leading mechanical engineering projects, particularly in the context of sustainable and low-energy solutions.
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience in mentoring and guiding junior engineers.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Hands‑on design experience, with a focus on technical excellence.
  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or equivalent professional recognition is highly desirable.
