Power Systems Engineer – Electrical Engineering

Location: Solihull

I am recruiting for a Power Systems Engineer to join a dedicated specialist Power Systems team within a well-established and growing Building Services and Low Carbon Engineering Consultancy.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Engineer with experience across power systems, electrical distribution and network modelling who is looking to develop their career while working on technically challenging projects.

The successful candidate will work across everything from LV and HV distribution networks through to embedded , substations, protection studies and resilient power systems, with network design extending up to 132k V.

Key Responsibilities

  • Electrical distribution network design from LV up to 132k V
  • 230V, 400V and 11k V electrical infrastructure design
  • Distribution substation and cable network design
  • Undertake network modelling and simulation
  • Carry out load flow and fault level analysis
  • Complete protection, selectivity and grading studies
  • Undertake harmonic analysis and Arc Flash assessments
  • Support embedded projects, including G99 applications and associated studies
  • Undertake substation earthing design
  • Design standby solutions for resilient electrical networks
  • Produce HV cable routing drawings
  • Liaise and negotiate with DNOs regarding new connections and capacity upgrades
  • Produce technical reports, specifications and drawings
  • Undertake site surveys and investigations
  • Attend design team meetings and present technical work to clients
  • Inspect installations and review contractors' work
  • Provide support during commissioning
  • Provide specialist power systems advice to wider Building Services engineering teams

Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have

  • Degree in Power Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Previous experience working within an electrical or power systems engineering environment
  • Experience designing LV/HV electrical distribution networks
  • Understanding of load flow and fault level analysis
  • Knowledge of protection and grading studies
  • Experience with ETAP, IPSA+, ERACS, Power Factory, Trimble, Electrical OM or similar power systems software
  • Auto CAD experience
  • Good technical and analytical capabilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively with clients and wider project teams
  • Experience with embedded , G99 applications, DNO connections, harmonic analysis, Arc Flash assessments and substation design would be particularly advantageous.
  • Revit experience would also be beneficial but is not essential.
