We are seeking an experienced Principal Product Safety Engineer to play a key role in ensuring the safety and integrity of complex, high‑value engineering systems across their full lifecycle. Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you'll support Technical Authority teams in identifying, assessing and mitigating risk, while contributing to the development of robust safety cases and hazard management strategies. This is an opportunity to work on cutting‑edge, safety‑critical technologies, influencing safety approaches from concept through to in‑service support and disposal.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Technical Authority teams in managing hazards, risks and mitigations
- Develop and maintain hazard logs and improve data maturity
- Lead or contribute to safety strategy and safety case development
- Produce high‑quality documentation, including safety cases, safety plans, hazard logs
- Facilitate and participate in HAZID workshops and safety reviews
- Collaborate with engineering teams to gather evidence supporting safety acceptance
Skills & Experience Required
- Strong understanding of safety management processes and methodologies
- Experience across multiple stages of the engineering lifecycle
- Knowledge of applicable standards such as: DSA-02, JSP 430, Def Stan 00-56, MIL-STD-882E, BS EN 61508
- Experience developing technical documentation to a high standard
- Familiarity with Safety Management Systems
- Experience in software safety (advantageous)
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering or relevant STEM discipline
- Working towards or achieved Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (desirable)
