Overview
Experienced CNC Maintenance Engineer required for a Global Manufacturer based at their Plymouth site.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will support site production facilities through reactive and planned maintenance of plant, equipment and services.
This role requires the ability to diagnose problems and to work in a safe manner as demonstrated by company task risk assessments, with the ability to communicate clearly with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to breakdowns in a timely manner as per the priority set by production and carry out necessary repairs on existing plant and machinery.
- Identify repeat problems and assist in corrective actions to remove the cause.
- Fault finding using CNC controls and PLC ladder logic.
- Ensure Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM) activities are carried out within scheduled times, and arrange machine release if required.
- Collaborate with production teams to assist with the installation of new machinery.
- Commissioning and installation of new machinery, coupled with decommissioning of old machinery.
- Assist with machinery moves.
- Implement and support PPM/TPM across the site.
- Maintain good communication with production staff on updates for machine breakdowns and machine releases from production for maintenance; coordinate between outgoing and incoming maintenance shifts.
- Work with production staff to provide breakdown support aligned with production priorities, ensuring a risk assessment is carried out prior to start of work and reassessing if there are changes during the task.
- Ensure 100% compliance with working on a task only after a risk assessment is in place.
- Meet individual KPIs and support the maintenance team to achieve departmental 5S targets.
- Liaise with external contractors as required.
- Electronic record keeping of machine repair details and stock.
- Risk assessment of all work tasks and contractor inductions.
- Act as a mentor when working with apprentices or new starters.
Essential Qualifications, Experience and Candidate Attributes
- A recognised maintenance apprenticeship coupled with relevant academic qualifications within an engineering discipline (e. g., City and Guilds, HNC, HND).
- Proven, recent experience working as a maintenance engineer with fault finding using CNC controls and rectifying faults.
- PC literate.
- Risk assessment trained.
- Excellent communication skills.
Desirable Knowledge and Qualifications
- Understanding of PLC systems and fault finding using ladder logic.
- IPAF licence.
- IOSH qualification.
The successful candidate will work a weekly alternating shift comprising Monday to Friday 06:00–14:00 and Monday to Friday 14:00–22:00.
The salary is inclusive of a shift premium for rotating shifts.
Training on a static day shift may be required for a period of time until the client is satisfied that training has been completed to a satisfactory standard.
