This is a site-based position located at Oxford. The role involves scientific leadership, CRO oversight, and hands-on laboratory work in a fast-paced, science-driven environment.
The Opportunity
You will drive preclinical in vivo studies through external CRO partnerships, supporting progression of gene therapy programmes from discovery through translational development. The successful candidate will manage CROs, oversee in vivo studies, and contribute hands-on wet-lab work while collaborating cross-functionally within a biotech setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, oversight, and interpretation of preclinical in vivo studies with external CRO partners
- Manage CRO relationships across study planning, timelines, budgets, protocol review, and data delivery
- Act as the internal scientific lead for animal model studies including efficacy, biodistribution, and toxicology
- Maintain hands-on involvement in molecular and cellular biology workflows
- Support the design and optimisation of gene expression constructs and vector development activities
- Contribute to data analysis, project planning, and scientific reporting across multiple programmes
Your Background
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Gene Therapy, Immunology, Virology, Translational Medicine, or related discipline
- Proven biotech industry experience within preclinical or translational research environments
- Strong track record managing CRO-based in vivo studies
- Experience with histology, bioanalysis, or biodistribution studies
- Experience driving study execution to timelines
- Hands-on wet lab expertise in molecular and/or cell biology
- Strong scientific data interpretation and problem-solving skills
- Excellent project management abilities
Highly Desirable
- Experience within gene therapy, viral vectors, or advanced therapeutics
- Exposure to GLP toxicology or IND-enabling studies
- Background working with translational animal models
