Mechanical Site Manager – Freelance
Location: Oxford
Contract: 18 Months
Day Rate: £275–£300 per day
Project: New Build College
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Site Manager to join a major new build college project in Oxford on an 18-month freelance basis.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of the mechanical services package, working closely with the Project Manager, subcontractors and wider site team to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with the project programme.
This position would suit a Mechanical Site Manager with a strong practical background in commercial plumbing and pipefitting, combined with a good working awareness of HVAC systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day delivery of mechanical services across the project.
- Supervise and coordinate mechanical subcontractors, plumbers and pipefitters.
- Oversee commercial plumbing and pipework installations.
- Monitor the installation of mechanical and HVAC systems.
- Ensure mechanical works are completed in accordance with drawings, specifications and programme requirements.
- Coordinate mechanical services with electrical, structural and architectural packages.
- Carry out regular site inspections and monitor the quality of installations.
- Monitor labour levels, productivity and subcontractor performance.
- Identify potential installation, coordination and programme issues and resolve them efficiently.
- Attend site, progress and coordination meetings.
- Liaise with the Project Manager, client representatives, consultants and other subcontractors.
- Ensure all mechanical works comply with relevant health & safety requirements.
- Manage RAMS, permits and associated site documentation.
- Monitor materials and ensure deliveries are coordinated with the construction programme.
- Oversee snagging and ensure outstanding mechanical works are completed.
- Assist with testing, commissioning and handover of the mechanical services.
Essential Experience
- Previous experience working as a Mechanical Site Manager or Mechanical Supervisor on commercial construction projects.
- Strong experience in commercial plumbing and pipefitting is essential.
- Good working knowledge and awareness of HVAC systems.
- Experience managing mechanical subcontractors and site labour.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of mechanical installation methods and sequencing.
- Good health & safety knowledge.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage mechanical works against a demanding construction programme.
- Previous experience on education, commercial or similar new-build projects would be advantageous.
