We are seeking an experienced Assistant Contracts Manager to join a growing surfacing and highways team. This role would suit someone with a site engineering background who is looking to progress into contract and operational management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of surfacing and highway maintenance contracts
  • Assist with planning, programming, and coordinating site operations
  • Manage subcontractors, labour, plant, and material resources
  • Monitor project costs, progress, quality, and health & safety compliance
  • Liaise with clients, site teams, and suppliers
  • Prepare site reports, RAMS, and contract documentation
  • Ensure works are delivered on time and within budget

Requirements

  • Previous experience in surfacing, asphalt, highways, or civil engineering & construction projects.
  • Background as a Assistant Site Engineer, Setting out Engineer, or similar
  • Good understanding of NEC contracts and highway specifications
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • SMSTS/SSSTS and CSCS desirable
  • Full UK driving licence

  • Hands‑on operational experience on live Construction or Civil Engineering projects
