For many experienced Civil Engineers, the next move is not just about a bigger project portfolio or a salary increase. It is about finding a business where they can genuinely influence technical delivery, help shape a growing team and see a long‑term pathway toward senior leadership.
A well‑established, employee‑owned engineering consultancy in central Newcastle is looking to appoint a Principal Civil Engineer to become a key technical figure within its growing office. With a strong and increasing pipeline of secured work across infrastructure, flood risk, environmental and water‑related engineering projects, the business is continuing to invest heavily in its North East operation and is looking for someone who wants to be part of that journey long term.
The office itself is less than ten minutes' walk from the train station and operates with an extremely flexible hybrid working model, with no expectation to be in more than three days a week. The culture is built around trust, flexibility and giving senior engineers the autonomy to manage projects and teams in a way that works for them.
This role would suit a Chartered Civil Engineer who enjoys being technically involved while also helping to guide and develop those around them. You would act as a senior technical lead within the office, overseeing delivery across a broad range of civil engineering projects from appraisal and outline design through to detailed design and construction support.
The workload includes a strong mix of infrastructure and environmental engineering schemes, many of which are focused on improving resilience, protecting communities and delivering long‑term sustainable outcomes. Alongside project delivery, there is a genuine opportunity to influence the growth and direction of the Newcastle office.
The business is keen to bring in someone who wants to mentor engineers, contribute to strategic growth plans and continue progressing their own career toward more senior leadership responsibilities over time. They are looking for someone coming from a consultancy background with strong technical capability across civil engineering design and project delivery.
Experience leading multidisciplinary projects, managing client relationships and supporting junior engineers would be highly beneficial. Chartered status is important for the role, alongside the ability to provide technical guidance and confidence across project delivery.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants more than just another Principal Engineer role and is looking for a business where they can build a long‑term career, have a genuine voice within the office and play a visible part in shaping its future.
