GBR Recruitment is working in close partnership with a well-established progressive new-build housing developer to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor (non-chartered or chartered) to manage multiple new-build sites across a range of construction types and sectors (public & private) plus large-scale refurbishment contracts. This key Senior QS role will be responsible for all elements of commercial and financial control measures from pre-construction through to final accounts and client handover.
Responsibilities include:
- Project budget control
- Sales forecasts
- Build and project cost management
- Preparing accurate monthly site valuations (CVRs)
- Tender bid preparation
- Handling subcontractor supply quotes
- Site surveys
- Taking off quantities
- Managing legal and contractual matters
- Ensuring compliance with H&S legislation across Lincolnshire, East Midlands, South Yorkshire and other areas within approximately 1.5 hours of the client’s HQ
You must be a seasoned main-contractor QS / Senior QS, strong in CDM and construction projects across multiple sectors and build types.
Overview of the Role:
- Assist with managing multiple sites from inception to completion
- Effectively manage all site budgets and costs for multiple sites
- Prepare accurate monthly site valuations (CVRs)
Daily Duties:
- Send out tenders and short-list potential subcontractor partners, inviting them to tender (ITT, PQQ/SQ to shortlist, RFI, RFQ), analyse returned tenders, and award chosen subcontractor/supplier contracts for various types of works across build stages
- Process weekly and fortnightly payments of direct and subcontractor labour
- Analyse subcontractor invoices/applications, dealing with any queries
- Make monthly subcontractor payments and keep payment record sheets up-to-date following each payment run
- Prepare monthly cost/value reconciliation (CVRs)
- Prepare tender bid documents/packs for new business as a main contractor to a variety of end-using clients
- Prepare monthly valuations and sales forecasts
- Monitor commercial performance throughout the build stages
- Prepare profit reports and manage the final accounts process to maximise profits/margins
- Conduct site surveys and take off quantities
- Attend project meetings throughout all stages of the building works/contract (pre-construction & progress meetings)
- Manage legal and contractual matters
Skills, Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor (QS) or ideally as a Senior QS with experience across a variety of build types (private & public sector)
- Strong knowledge of CDM and varied main contractor construction works (from £500K up to £10M projects)
- BSc Hons Degree in Quantity Surveying or a construction-related degree, or equivalent time served in a QS/Senior QS capacity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong professional communication at all levels
- Experience liaising with internal build teams, suppliers, and end-using clients
