Role
Our client, a leading water sector specialist, is seeking an enthusiastic Mechanical Design Engineer to work out of Paddington, London. This role plays a crucial part in supporting the design and delivery of mechanical systems in alignment with Thames Waterโs operational and technical requirements. This role would be best suited to an individual with 3-5 years experience who is looking to further develop their career and receive tailored support to become a competent multi-discipline engineer.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and review mechanical design documentation including:
- Pumping systems
- Pipework layouts
- Filtration units
- Water and wastewater treatment systems
- Work closely with civil and electrical engineering teams to develop integrated solutions.
- Attend regular client meetings (e.g., weekly progress updates, hazard reviews).
- Support stakeholder communication and ensure design solutions align with client expectations.
- Engage with the supply chain for the specification and procurement of mechanical equipment.
- Conduct site visits for surveys and inspections.
- Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases as needed.
Required Skills & Experience
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in the design of mechanical systems within the water or wastewater sectors.
- Knowledge of UK water industry standards and practices (e.g., WIMES).
- Ability to interpret and produce P&IDs, layout drawings, and technical specifications.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration and client engagement.
- Full UK driving license (for site travel).
- Familiarity with 3D design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit).
