Maintenance Engineer

Blackburn, Lancashire £48,000 per annum + Overtime (Time & a Half) 4 on 4 off Shift Pattern

  • Days: 6:00am – 6:00pm (2:00pm finish on Saturdays)
  • No Saturday night shifts

Due to continued investment and expansion, I am looking to recruit a Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team at their modern manufacturing facility in Blackburn.

The Role – Maintenance Engineer

Working as part of a skilled engineering team, you'll play a key role in maintaining production equipment, responding to breakdowns and delivering planned preventative maintenance across a busy FMCG manufacturing site.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys problem solving, working on automated production equipment and contributing to continuous improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across production machinery.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to electrical and mechanical breakdowns.
  • Diagnose faults using root cause analysis and implement long‑term solutions.
  • Fault find on PLC‑controlled machinery.
  • Maintain electrical control systems, motors, drives, sensors and automation equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement projects to maximise plant efficiency.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately recorded using the CMMS system.
  • Work closely with Production, Engineering and Management teams to minimise downtime.
  • Assist with installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Mentor and support fellow engineers where required.
  • Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety, HACCP, GMP and COSHH standards.

About You

We're looking for someone with

  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
  • BTEC, ONC, HNC or HND in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or similar).
  • Proven experience within an FMCG, food manufacturing or high‑speed production environment.
  • Strong electrical fault‑finding skills with good mechanical knowledge.
  • Experience working with PLC‑controlled machinery.
  • Knowledge of process control systems.
  • Experience using CMMS maintenance systems.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance strategies.
  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMP and COSHH.
  • A proactive attitude with excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Passion for continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
