Key Responsibilities
- Develop electrical designs and layouts for commercial and residential developments, including power distribution, lighting and lighting control systems, and life safety systems.
- Carry out independent site surveys to assess existing installations, collect technical information, and produce detailed reports, schematics, and practical recommendations.
- Demonstrate experience in the design of lighting, CCTV, telecommunications, and fire alarm systems.
- Confidently present technical proposals and reports to clients in a clear and accessible manner, while coordinating effectively with developers, architects, contractors, and design teams.
- Produce accurate schematic and layout drawings using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or equivalent software throughout all stages of the Plan of Work.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, senior engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure projects are delivered on schedule and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Ensure all electrical designs align with UK regulations and industry guidance, including IET Wiring Regulations, CIBSE guidelines, and BSRIA standards.
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, ideally educated to Master’s level.
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in building services electrical design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Trimble, Dialux or Relux, and other relevant electrical design software.
- Strong knowledge of UK building regulations and industry standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information effectively to clients and stakeholders.
- Membership with, or progression towards membership of, professional organisations such as CIBSE or IET is desirable.
