About the Role

We are working with a leading main contractor to appoint an Assistant Design Manager to join their Central London team, supporting the delivery of complex, high‑profile projects across fit‑out, refurbishment, and structural (cut & carve) schemes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone currently operating at Assistant level, or a Design Coordinator, who is looking to step up into a Design Manager role over the next 2-3 years within a supportive and well‑structured business. You'll gain hands‑on exposure across the full project lifecycle, working alongside experienced Design Managers on technically challenging schemes.

Project Scope

  • CAT A & CAT B fit‑out
  • Refurbishment and cut & carve projects
  • Structural elements within central London schemes
  • Fast‑paced, detail‑driven environments with high client expectations

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the coordination of the design process across all project phases (RIBA 0-7)
  • Assist in liaising with consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Help manage RFIs, technical submissions, and drawing reviews
  • Attend and contribute to design team meetings and workshops
  • Work closely with site and commercial teams to ensure buildability and programme alignment
  • Support in tracking and issuing design information in line with programme requirements
  • Assist in identifying and resolving design issues proactively

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience in an Assistant Design Manager / Design Coordinator role within a main contractor or fit‑out environment
  • Exposure to fit‑out (CAT A & CAT B), refurbishment or similar projects
  • Good understanding of design coordination, technical information, and construction processes
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Ambition to progress into a Design Manager role in the near future
  • Proactive, organised, and keen to learn within a fast‑paced environment
