Position Overview
The Logistics Design Manager serves as a subject matter expert in the senior central operations team, reporting to the Head of Network Design, and is responsible for redesigning the operational network to meet future capacity, cost, and service requirements while delivering short‑term operational improvements and savings.
Responsibilities
- Redesign the operational network and oversee changes to network infrastructure, product routing, automation, work plans, layouts, equipment, systems, processing, and handling procedures.
- Ensure all design work complies with health and safety policies.
- Develop budget levels using historical data, analysis, and expert opinion.
- Provide innovative solutions aligned with the strategic Target Operating Model.
- Make data‑driven decisions based on processes, capacity, cost, productivity, and cost drivers.
- Multitask and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
- Work independently and take ownership of projects.
- Complete projects within company set timeframes.
- Solve complex challenges with a “can‑do” attitude.
- Manage a multimillion‑pound design project portfolio and roadmap.
- Create and deliver the Target Operating Model with internal stakeholders (IT, Operations, Commercial, Engineering, HR, Finance).
- Collaborate with functional leads and technical experts to identify and quantify opportunity areas for cost reduction, capacity increase, and service improvement.
- Prioritize design efforts and supervise actions to ensure implementation.
- Use financial and operational analysis for informed decisions.
- Communicate with sponsors and stakeholders to secure understanding and acceptance of recommendations.
- Balance quality, service, capabilities, and cost through coordination between operational and commercial colleagues.
Qualifications
- STEM subject or logistics degree qualification.
- Minimum 5 years experience in logistics management or operational design/improvement.
- Experience in logistics operations and generating operational improvements.
- Project management and planning experience with a track record of delivering results.
- Knowledge of supply chain and related processes.
- Expertise in leading strategic vision, managing senior employees, and influencing board‑level strategic direction.
- Operational costing, commercial profitability.
