An experienced Compliance Co‑ordinator with an understanding of ethical audit programmes is needed to join an established clothing manufacturer and supplier to a variety of high‑street retailers and grocers. This is the perfect role for someone who is looking for their first position in ethical sustainability and comes from a fashion background or has a fashion degree with administrative experience.

The Role

  • Working with customers and licensors to collect their social, ethical, technical, environmental and building‑safety compliance requirements.
  • Working with in‑country compliance teams and suppliers to implement customers/licensors' compliance requirements at factories.
  • Performing factory pre‑audits and assisting in audit preparations.
  • Reviewing compliance‑related processes and writing up procedures where needed.
  • Closely following up the factory accreditation process, booking audits, reviewing reports, certificates, non‑compliances, corrective actions and expiry dates.
  • Being knowledgeable on sourcing‑country laws and regulations – or researching and studying as needed.
  • Working with the company’s supply chain to check traceability and validate all paperwork.
  • Monitoring the supply base through proactive management of the audit programme, driving improvement through ongoing work with suppliers and with the support of the in‑country teams.
  • Supporting the business with the ethical compliance programme for the group, undertaking investigations into potential ethical compliance issues.
  • Managing customer/licensor‑specific compliance requirements, communications and attending regular meetings.
  • Forming close relationships with suppliers, customers and licensors.
  • Having a great understanding of ethical audit programmes such as ETI, SMETA, BSCI and WALMART.
  • Being knowledgeable of sustainability and environmental programmes such as GOTS, BCI and the Higg Index.
  • Conducting ongoing research, study and training on the latest compliance requirements.
  • Observing company rules, standard operating procedures and company policies, particularly in relation to health and safety, harassment, disciplinary and ICT security.
  • Reporting any findings and suggesting solutions to responsible management.

Skills Required

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in the compliance field (factory auditing experience would be a great advantage).
  • Strong understanding of ethical audit programmes such as SMETA and BSCI.
  • Ability to research sustainability programmes and new initiatives such as GOTS, BCI and the Higg Index.
  • Highly organised with proven ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail.
  • A proactive approach.
  • Previous auditing experience would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office packages and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
