Are you an experienced Risk Manager ready to step into a high-impact role shaping strategy and strengthening governance? We're supporting a Local Authority to appoint an interim Risk Manager on a minimum 6‑month assignment. This is a fantastic opportunity to influence senior leadership, drive enterprise risk strategy, and embed best practice across a complex organisation.

The Role

  • You'll lead and develop the organisation's risk management strategy, working closely with senior leaders to ensure risks are proactively identified, assessed, and managed.
  • Driving and embedding an enterprise risk management framework (ERM)
  • Acting as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders and leadership teams
  • Leading risk identification, analysis, mitigation, and reporting
  • Supporting governance through collaboration with internal audit, finance, and compliance teams
  • Horizon scanning to anticipate emerging risks across political, regulatory, and economic landscapes
  • Championing continuous improvement and service transformation

About You

  • Strong experience in strategic risk management (ideally public sector / local government)
  • Expertise in governance, audit, and financial/regulatory frameworks
  • Proven ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders and decision-makers
  • Experience leading risk frameworks, transformation, or organisational change
  • A proactive, advisory mindset with excellent communication skills
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g. IRM) or equivalent experience
