The Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Mechanical Technician to join the team at Rye House Power Station. You will take ownership of mechanical maintenance activities across the site - planning, scheduling, supervising contractors, preparing method statements and risk assessments, and carrying out hands‑on maintenance work. This role is ideal for a practical, safety‑driven engineer with a strong background in rotating machinery, pressure systems, and fault diagnosis within heavy industry or power.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping across the station.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including the Health & Safety at Work Act and the Environmental Protection Act.
- Prepare and manage mechanical maintenance contracts to support station needs.
- Act as Competent Person or Authorised Person within the company safety rules.
- Deliver best practice in mechanical maintenance execution.
- Supervise contractors during outages, inspections, and overhauls.
- Diagnose mechanical faults proactively and develop effective solutions.
- Support 24/7 maintenance requirements to ensure station reliability.
- Contribute to delivering Process Safety KPIs.
- Assist with budgeting, cost control, procurement, and specification development.
- Support major inspections and overhauls at UK thermal sites.
- Execute hands‑on mechanical maintenance on equipment and systems.
- Maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Travel occasionally to other sites as required.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Mechanical maintenance experience in power and/or heavy industry.
- HNC or equivalent qualification and experience.
- Good computer literacy.
- Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental legislation.
Desirable
- IOSH entry‑level Managing Safely qualification.
- Team‑working skills and experience supporting other disciplines.
- Understanding of budgeting and contract management.
- Willingness to develop further technical skills.
- Flexible, proactive approach to work.
The Person
- At least 3 years' experience in a process or heavy‑industrial environment.
- Clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organisational and time‑management capabilities.
- Able to analyse problems rationally under pressure and develop solutions.
