Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor - Hydrocarbons experience. PAYE contract.

Summary

We’re looking for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental Advisor to join a leading high-hazard sector business in Grangemouth on an 18-month contract. This role provides an opportunity to influence safety culture and compliance across diverse activities, including decommissioning, projects, and demolition. It would suit a candidate with strong HSE expertise and a solid understanding of regulatory compliance, looking to make a real impact in a dynamic environment.

Grangemouth, Scotland – On-site role; ideally suited to candidates within a commutable distance.

Our client operates within a high-hazard industry and is committed to achieving the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance across all operations and transition activities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and legislative guidance on HS&E compliance and promote best practice.
  • Collaborate with decommissioning, projects, and demolition teams to embed HS&E principles and develop improvement plans.
  • Act as subject matter expert on designated HS&E topics and advise on regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver professional support to the Transition Team, managers, and supervisors.
  • Lead and manage task‑specific risk assessments to ensure effective hazard control.
  • Support investigations, enquiries, and special projects by providing HS&E expertise.
  • Analyse and report HS&E data to drive performance improvements and meet internal and external requirements.
  • Contribute to HS&E strategy development and ensure alignment with regulatory and company objectives.

Must-have Requirements

  • Relevant qualification in HSE, Science, or Engineering discipline (or equivalent), with at least 5 years of experience in an operational or Upper Tier COMAH environment.
  • Strong practical understanding of HS&E regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels and deliver clear advice.

Nice-to-have Skills

  • Chartered membership of IOSH or IEMA and/or NEBOSH Diploma (or working towards).
  • Experience with Upper Tier COMAH sites.
  • Knowledge of HS&E standards combined with a basic understanding of Process Safety Management.
