Joining our Commercial team as a Graduate Quantity Surveyor, you will work closely with our experienced Quantity Surveyors, developing the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the surveying field while using your degree to underpin your learning and gain valuable on-the-job experience. This is a critical role within the housebuilding industry, responsible for budgeting and managing the cost of building our new homes.
Key Duties and Requirements:- Processing subcontractor orders, invoice payments and variations using Excel and the Group ERP system - COINS, with the support and guidance of the project Quantity Surveyor.
- Attending developments and assisting the Quantity Surveyor in carrying out bi-monthly valuation process.
- Liaising with sub-contractors in relation to day-to-day queries whilst also assisting the Quantity Surveyor with onsite subcontractor meetings.
- Assisting with preparation of tenders and providing support with the procurement of sub-contractors.
- Liaising with the development site teams and assisting with any day-to-day queries.
- Assisting the Quantity Surveyor with new site tenders, including preparing subcontractor tender analysis documents and supporting accurate project costings.
- Creating new site records on COINS.
- Assisting with basic quantity take-offs and measurement tasks to support cost planning and estimating.
- Managing directly employed weekly payments for subcontractor trades.
- Attending the bi-monthly valuation meetings and assisting the Quantity Surveyor in formulating valuation packs.
- Updating build cost documents and orders on the system, following agreed price changes.
- Developing a strong understanding of quantity surveying principles, practices and procedures through on-the-job learning.
- Contributing to identifying cost savings and assisting with cost control.
- A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying.
- A willingness to learn.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
- Competent IT skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritise workload and work to tight deadlines.
- The ability to work in both a team environment as well as independently using your own initiative.
