The Role of the Engineering Supervisor

As an Engineering Supervisor, you will play a key role in ensuring the fleet is maintained to the highest possible standards of safety, compliance, reliability and presentation. You will help lead and motivate the engineering team while ensuring vehicle availability meets operational demands.

Key Responsibilities of the Engineering Supervisor:

  • Supervise the maintenance, inspection and servicing of the PSV fleet while supporting the Engineering Manager with the day-to-day running of the workshop.
  • Allocate planned and reactive maintenance work effectively, ensuring maximum vehicle availability and minimal downtime.
  • Lead, support and develop engineers and apprentices while promoting high standards of health & safety, workmanship and workshop performance.
  • Ensure all maintenance, MOT preparation, compliance documentation and digital job records are completed accurately and in line with DVSA and company standards.
  • Work closely with Operations to manage breakdowns, vehicle changeovers, service reliability and punctuality targets.
  • Support stock control, warranty processes, workshop budgets and any disciplinary, grievance or absence management procedures where required.

Essential Skills & Experience of the Engineering Supervisor:

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in PSV, HGV or Heavy Vehicle Engineering.
  • Previous experience within a PSV, HGV or commercial vehicle workshop environment.
  • Supervisory or team leadership experience with the ability to manage workloads and motivate engineering teams.
  • Strong knowledge of DVSA compliance, vehicle maintenance standards and fault diagnosis.
  • Good IT skills and experience using workshop management or fleet maintenance systems.
  • Full UK Driving Licence (PCV Licence, IRTEC or electric/hybrid vehicle experience desirable).
