Quality Engineer Salary £36,000 to £38,000 per annum – based in Gillingham, Kent. Days role working Mon to Fri (early finish on Fri). Permanent position. Our client is a well‑established engineering company. The role reports to the Factory Manager and is a stand‑alone position that collaborates with Inspectors and shop‑floor staff. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of the quality function in a hands‑on capacity.

Duties of the Quality Engineer:

  • Develop and maintain quality procedures
  • Drive continuous improvement strategies
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance
  • Goods‑In inspection
  • Liaise with the Sales team to resolve customer issues
  • Implement corrective and preventative actions
  • Maintain accurate quality records
  • Ensure calibration of quality control equipment
  • Carry out internal audits, ensuring procedures meet both internal and external standards
  • Review and approve documentation related to manufacturing and packaging (SOPs and RAs)
  • Continue development of the QMS in line with the continuous improvement programme
  • Work closely with other departments to drive a quality and continuous improvement culture
  • Lead and support customer and regulatory audits (including BS audits)

Skills and experience:

  • HND or similar in an engineering related subject (ideal)
  • Experience in a quality assurance role within manufacturing
  • NEBOSH certified (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong knowledge of ISO9001 and quality systems
  • Good problem‑solving and analytical skills
  • Proficient with quality control tools and MS Office
  • Root cause analysis expertise
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to lead others
  • Excellent communication skills, able to communicate at all levels
  • Enthusiasm for continuous improvement initiatives
