Overview

This 12-month fixed term contract role is ideally suited to a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Project Engineer with either an electrical or mechanical engineering background, looking to develop their career within project engineering and project management. Reporting to a Project Manager, you will work closely with the Technical Sales, Design, and Production teams to support the successful delivery of engineering projects from initial enquiry through to completion. You will gain hands-on experience across project planning, coordination, documentation, and customer communication, while receiving ongoing support and development through internal and external training where required.

The ideal candidate may already have some experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment or an eagerness to learn. Exposure to any of the following areas and systems would be advantageous:

  • Heating & ventilation systems/equipment
  • Sheet metal fabrication
  • Equipment designed for hazardous environments (ATEX)
  • Electrical design and standards
  • ISO 9001 / ISO 14001
  • Offshore and renewable energy markets

Systems:

  • DraftSight
  • SolidWorks
  • MRP Systems (Javelin)
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Microsoft Project

Working hours are Monday to Thursday, with Week 1 Friday off and Week 2 Friday worked for 4 hours. Flexible start times are available between 07:00–09:00, with finish times between 16:15–18:15 Monday to Thursday. On the Friday worked, the same flexible start applies with finish times between 11:00–13:00.

Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the planning and coordination of projects to meet customer specifications and requirements
  • Supporting project timescale estimation and scheduling activities
  • Assisting with cost estimating and budget tracking to meet customer and company objectives
  • Preparing and maintaining project documentation including Quality Plans, Certificates of Conformity, and Installation, Operation & Maintenance Manuals
  • Monitoring project progress and providing updates to Project Managers, senior management, and customers
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Assisting with checking CAD drawings and designs prior to customer approval
  • Supporting the creation of MRP parts, Bills of Materials, Works Orders, and drawing packages for Production
  • Providing general project and engineering support across departments as required

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum HNC qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
  • An apprenticeship in an engineering discipline would be advantageous
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Willingness to travel within the UK and abroad if required by the business
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external contacts
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and develop within the role
