Location: Frimley, Christchurch, Yeovil. Hybrid and flexible working arrangements are available.

Salary: £60,000 depending on skills and experience + 10% bonus.

As a Senior Human Factors Engineer, you will provide Human Factors Integration support in the design of products and processes. This includes tailoring and estimating required human factors work, capturing and managing requirements, risks and opportunities, offering design guidance, conducting testing and evaluation, and supporting acceptance and review.

Core Duties

  • Provide Human Factors Integration support in the design of products and processes, tailoring and estimating required human factors work, capturing and managing requirements, risks and opportunities, offering design guidance, conducting testing and evaluation, and supporting acceptance and review.
  • Plan and execute quantitative and qualitative human factors assessments (human error, workload, situation awareness, ergonomic analysis, and usability).
  • Provide advice on the design and usability of hardware and software products.
  • Identify and implement novel or updated approaches to Human Factors best practice based on up-to-date research.
  • Scope and manage how and when work will be conducted.

Essential Skills

  • Recognised bachelor’s or master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology or Engineering.
  • Registered membership of the Chartered Institute of Human Factors (or Technical Member, with eligibility for registration within 12 months).
  • Demonstrable experience of applying Human Factors methods in defence or a safety‑critical industry.
  • Familiarity with, or experience applying, Defence Human Factors Standards (e.g. Def Stan 00-251 or Mil-Std 1472) – other industry standards are also welcome.

The Team

The DI Human Factors team works alongside other Engineers to provide an approach to usability and human safety that integrates with the engineering lifecycle to deliver a holistic approach to system design for our customers.
