We are seeking an experienced Safety Case Engineer to support the development and maintenance of nuclear safety cases within a highly regulated environment. This long-term contract role will involve working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure that nuclear facilities operate safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, author, and maintain nuclear safety case documentation
- Produce key safety case deliverables including hazard assessments, fault studies, and safety justifications
- Support the preparation of documents such as Safety Reports, Basis of Safety Case (BoSC), and ALARP justifications
- Apply deterministic and probabilistic safety analysis techniques where required
- Interface with engineering, operations, and project teams to gather inputs and ensure alignment
- Support hazard identification studies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP)
- Ensure compliance with UK nuclear regulatory frameworks and standards
- Engage with regulators, including Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR), where required
- Contribute to safety case reviews, updates, and continuous improvement activities
- Support configuration control and change management processes
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline
- Proven experience in safety case development within the nuclear industry
- Strong understanding of UK nuclear regulatory requirements and safety case methodologies
- Experience in hazard identification and risk assessment techniques
- Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
- Must be a sole British due to security clearance requirements
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working on major UK nuclear programmes such as Sellafield, Hinkley Point C, or Devonport Dockyard
- Familiarity with probabilistic safety assessment (PSA) tools and methodologies
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., Nuclear Institute)
- Experience supporting regulatory interactions and safety case submissions
- Knowledge of human factors, radiological protection, or criticality safety
