The business forms part of a major international contractor group and offers the backing, stability, and progression opportunities of a global organisation, combined with the agility and specialist expertise of a dedicated steel and metalwork division.
The Role
- Lead and develop the estimating division, implementing robust processes, strategy, and commercial controls.
- Take full ownership of estimating activity across structural steel and architectural metalwork packages, from enquiry through to final submission.
- Prepare and review detailed cost estimates for a wide range of projects including primary steelwork, secondary steel, staircases, balustrades, handrails, and bespoke metalwork solutions.
- Work closely with Tier 1 main contractors on bids, tenders, and negotiated projects.
- Provide commercial leadership across pre‑construction, ensuring strong cost planning, value engineering, and risk mitigation.
- Oversee pricing strategy, supply chain engagement, and margin control across both steel and metalwork scopes.
- Mentor and support junior estimators and commercial team members.
- Collaborate with senior leadership on pipeline, forecasting, and wider business strategy.
- Provide QS‑level commercial input including cost management, contract awareness, variations, and financial risk assessment.
About You
- Proven leadership experience in estimating within structural steel and/or architectural metalwork.
- Strong experience pricing both heavy structural steelwork and detailed metalwork packages.
- Background in commercial management and/or Quantity Surveying is highly desirable.
- Confident dealing with Tier 1 contractors and familiar with their commercial processes.
- Strong understanding of contracts, cost control, variations, and risk analysis.
- Commercially astute with the ability to protect margin while remaining competitive.
- Ambitious, driven, and capable of building and shaping a high‑performing division.
