Our client has been established for almost a century and are market leaders in the design and manufacture of bespoke rail solutions for supply across the globe. As a result of continued success and exciting plans for the future, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Electrical Design Engineer to join their design and development team.
Tasked with undertaking the design, development and documenting of electrical systems for locomotive units and associated equipment, the successful candidate will ensure that all electrical designs meet required technical specifications, industry standards, safety requirements, and project timelines. This role will necessitate close collaboration with mechanical engineers, manufacturing, and project teams in order to deliver reliable and maintainable electrical solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Developing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control system layouts in accordance with project requirements and engineering standards.
- Undertaking the design and specification of electrical components, panels, and systems, ensuring compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Collaborating with the mechanical, systems, and manufacturing teams to integrate electrical designs with overall product architecture.
- Supporting prototype development, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems, and reviewing and updating associated technical documentation, drawings, and BOM's.
- Assisting in troubleshooting and resolving electrical design or system issues during manufacturing, testing, and field service, and contributing to CI initiatives by proposing design optimizations and standardization.
- Ensuring accurate reporting of project progress and adherence to timelines.
Qualifications:
It is envisaged that the successful Electrical Design Engineer candidate will be qualified to degree level or above in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline and demonstrate at least 4 years' experience gained in an electrical design role, preferably within locomotives, heavy machinery, or industrial equipment.
You will possess comprehensive skills and experience in the use of electrical CAD software (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN) and the Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong understanding of electrical systems, control systems, PLCs, and related standards including safety standards and regulations for electrical systems. You will also demonstrate excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with a high level of attention to detail, along with strong communication skills at all levels and the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. You will possess solid technical expertise in electrical design and system integration with the ability to manage multiple design tasks and meet project deadlines, with a positive approach to problem‑solving and continuous improvement.
