We are seeking a hands-on, time-served Mechanical Engineer to join our flow measurement laboratory. You will install flow meters, assemble and fit pipework, and carry out wider mechanical maintenance across our test rigs and laboratory systems. This role offers up to £36,000, depending on the successful candidate's competencies.

What you’ll do:

  • Assemble, fit and install pipelines, flow meters and associated mechanical components to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Install flow meters within laboratory test setups; support test runs and functional checks.
  • Perform routine and reactive maintenance to keep mechanical equipment and rigs operating reliably and efficiently.
  • Work closely with engineers and technicians to develop and improve mechanical systems and pipework for lab testing applications.
  • Conduct inspections, pressure/leak tests and functional checks on assemblies, pipework and meters; complete test/inspection records.
  • Follow company procedures and all Health, Safety & Environmental requirements; maintain a clean, organised laboratory workspace.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement to enhance reliability, quality and efficiency.
  • Accurately document all work, including maintenance logs and inspection reports.

Qualification:

  • Time-served apprenticeship and/or formal qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds) in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
  • Proven experience as a pipefitter/mechanical engineer in an engineering or laboratory/test environment.
  • Confident reading and interpreting engineering drawings, P&IDs and technical documents.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, valves, fittings, tools and assembly techniques.
  • High attention to detail with excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team with a proactive, can-do approach.
  • Good communication skills and a sound understanding of Health & Safety in an engineering/lab context.
