Role outline:

The Mechanical Fitter will provide client mechanical support in installation, repair, and service of mechanical equipment, working alongside electricians and improving mechanical assets through innovation. Flexibility for travel between Hampshire, East Sussex, and Dartford is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and advise management of progress and highlight areas outside scope of delivery
  • Test mechanical systems and equipment using vibration sensors and infra‑red cameras to ensure compatibility and safety
  • Inspect mechanical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects and repair needs
  • Assemble, install, test and maintain mechanical equipment using hand tools, test equipment and power tools
  • Perform mechanical tasks such as pump replacement, screens and pipework installation, alignments, valve problem solving, installation, fault finding, and read drawings
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on pumping systems equipment
  • Ensure contractual response times are adhered to and keep the site team updated
  • React to emergency and shutdown works
  • Complete Point of Work Risk Assessments
  • Ensure clear understanding of Risk Assessment & Method Statement
  • Read, understand, and interpret mechanical drawings, station drawings and schematics

Requirements:

  • Possess GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
  • Successfully completed a modern apprenticeship or equivalent in engineering
  • Relevant experience in an engineering environment (preferred but not essential)
  • Hold a CSCS or equivalent card (ideally)
  • Experience with pipework, screens, pumps, and motors
  • Experience in an on‑site engineering environment (essential)
  • Working knowledge of confined space hazards, abrasive wheels, and high‑risk environments (desired but not essential)
  • Good communication skills, hard‑working, conscientious, and able to work calmly under pressure
  • Self‑motivated, able to work on own initiative, and work as part of a team
  • Familiar with EUSR Water and Sewage, PASMA, IPAF (desired but not essential)
