The Opportunity

We are working with an established MEP design consultancy based in Crawley who are looking to appoint an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their growing design team.

The consultancy works across a range of residential and commercial developments, providing complete building services design solutions from initial concept through to detailed design and construction.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Design Engineer who enjoys being involved in projects from the early design stages and wants to take ownership of delivering technically sound, coordinated electrical designs.

The Role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing full electrical building services designs across a variety of residential and commercial projects.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Producing electrical designs from concept through to detailed design and construction stages.
  • Developing electrical layouts, schematics and technical drawings.
  • Carrying out electrical load assessments and calculations.
  • Designing lighting and emergency lighting systems.
  • Designing small power and general power distribution systems.
  • Producing LV distribution and containment designs.
  • Undertaking cable sizing, voltage drop and fault current calculations.
  • Designing fire alarm, emergency lighting and other associated electrical systems where required.
  • Producing specifications, schedules and other technical documentation.
  • Working closely with mechanical engineers, architects and other design disciplines to ensure fully coordinated designs.
  • Attending project meetings and liaising with clients, contractors and other stakeholders.
  • Reviewing drawings and technical information throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Providing technical support during the construction phase where required.

Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have

  • Previous experience working within a Building Services / MEP design consultancy.
  • Strong experience in electrical building services design.
  • Experience delivering designs across residential and/or commercial projects.
  • Good knowledge of relevant British Standards and building regulations.
  • Experience producing electrical calculations and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Auto CAD.
  • Experience with Revit MEP would be advantageous.
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary design team.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to liaise confidently with clients and other project stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline would be advantageous, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.
