What you need to know about the role

We are looking for a skilled and dependable Welder to join our rail maintenance workshop. The role focuses on carrying out high‑quality welding and fabrication work on rail components and associated equipment, including heavy section materials, ensuring all work meets required safety and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform welding and fabrication tasks on rail components and equipment, including thick section steel (20–50 mm).
  • Select and apply the correct welding processes for heavy materials (MIG, Stick, Flux‑Cored, TIG where required).
  • Weld in all positions including horizontal, vertical, and overhead.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and within deadlines.
  • Carry out basic inspections and quality checks on completed work.
  • Maintain welding equipment and ensure safe operation at all times.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety procedures.

What we need to know about you

  • Proven welding experience on thick section steel (20–50 mm).
  • Strong understanding of appropriate weld procedures for heavy materials.
  • Experience with MIG, Stick, and Flux‑Cored welding (TIG advantageous).
  • Ability to weld in all positions (horizontal, vertical, overhead).
  • Air arc gouging experience advantageous.
  • Ability to read and work from technical drawings.
  • Experience in a workshop or industrial environment.
  • Good understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Relevant welding qualifications/certifications (required).
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Reliable and self‑motivated.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
