About the role
Design systems that operate where failure isn’t an option. We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the development and integration of electrical systems for armoured military vehicles. This role goes beyond traditional vehicle design; you’ll be working on mission‑critical systems that directly support defence operations, including electronic countermeasures (ECM/EECM), BOWMAN communications, and situational awareness technologies. You’ll thrive here if you enjoy owning complex engineering challenges, influencing design direction, and working across multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust, field‑ready solutions.
What you’ll get in return
- Performance rewards – discretionary bonus opportunities
- Flex your day – flexible start and finish times (subject to manager approval and operational needs)
- Time to recharge – 25 days’ holiday + 8 bank holidays, with the option to buy more through our Holiday Purchase Scheme
- Support for Defence – two weeks’ paid leave for Reservists and Cadets, plus paid leave for Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs)
- Future security – competitive pension scheme (9% combined employer/employee contributions)
- Peace of mind – life cover at 3x base salary
- Health & wellbeing first – BHSF Cash Healthcare Plan to support everyday health costs
- Grow with us – career development and advancement opportunities within a global business
- Supportive environment – a team culture built on innovation, collaboration, and purpose
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll take ownership of electrical design and integration across defence vehicle programmes, leading work from concept through to validation and in‑service support. You’ll define system architectures, develop design solutions, and ensure integration of complex subsystems into operational platforms. You’ll work closely with systems engineers, mechanical teams, production, and customers to translate requirements into validated designs that meet both engineering standards and real‑world operational needs. This includes integrating technologies such as ECM/EECM, tactical communications (including BOWMAN), and situational awareness systems into armoured vehicles. You’ll also play a key role in verification and validation activities, configuration control, and engineering change processes, ensuring designs are robust, compliant, and ready for deployment. As a senior engineer, you’ll be comfortable communicating technical concepts clearly to both internal stakeholders and external customers. Our team embraces modern technologies, including AI‑assisted tools, to work smarter and deliver better results. Candidates should either have experience using AI tools or demonstrate a willingness to learn and apply them in their role.
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience within defence, military vehicle, or land systems environments
- Experience working with or integrating ECM/EECM, electronic warfare, or tactical communication systems (e.g. BOWMAN)
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, including schematics, architecture, and integration
- Experience delivering engineering solutions through the full lifecycle (concept to validation)
- Familiarity with structured engineering processes (e.g. configuration control, V&V, Def Stan)
- Experience using 3D CAD tools (Creo) and PLM systems (Windchill desirable)
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Bonus points if you have
- Experience working with UK MoD or on defence programmes
- Experience in vehicle or platform integration within defence environments
- Knowledge of environmental and compliance requirements for military systems
- Existing SC clearance
- Experience of using AI tools or demonstrates a willingness to learn and apply AI in role
