Raft Fitter (Mechanical Fitter) – Near Burton upon Trent

Shift: Afternoon Shift | Start: Immediate | Contract: Minimum 6-Month | Possibility: Temp to Perm

Pay: £17.00 per hour for the first 12 weeks, £18.79 per hour from week 13 onwards plus 20% shift allowance.

The role will involve stripping rafts and building transmissions within the rail industry, working as part of a team to break down and rebuild mechanical systems on locomotive rafts.

Responsibilities:

  • Engine strip down and rebuild of components
  • Fitting refurbished engines back onto rafts
  • Working on radiators, pumps, tanks, pipework, electrical looms and associated components
  • Repairing and installing hydraulic systems
  • Overhaul of raft components
  • Reading and understanding schematic drawings
  • Supporting trainees and apprentices where required

Preferred Background:

  • Strong mechanical fitting experience
  • Experienced as Plant Fitters / Builders
  • Hydraulic experience would be a strong advantage
  • HGV, large engines, rolling stock, heavy plant or similar backgrounds
  • Good understanding of engines, hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Positive attitude and flexible approach to overtime

Relevant engineering qualifications are beneficial but not essential for experienced candidates.
