Raft Fitter (Mechanical Fitter) – Near Burton upon Trent
Shift: Afternoon Shift | Start: Immediate | Contract: Minimum 6-Month | Possibility: Temp to Perm
Pay: £17.00 per hour for the first 12 weeks, £18.79 per hour from week 13 onwards plus 20% shift allowance.
The role will involve stripping rafts and building transmissions within the rail industry, working as part of a team to break down and rebuild mechanical systems on locomotive rafts.
Responsibilities:
- Engine strip down and rebuild of components
- Fitting refurbished engines back onto rafts
- Working on radiators, pumps, tanks, pipework, electrical looms and associated components
- Repairing and installing hydraulic systems
- Overhaul of raft components
- Reading and understanding schematic drawings
- Supporting trainees and apprentices where required
Preferred Background:
- Strong mechanical fitting experience
- Experienced as Plant Fitters / Builders
- Hydraulic experience would be a strong advantage
- HGV, large engines, rolling stock, heavy plant or similar backgrounds
- Good understanding of engines, hydraulics and pneumatics
- Positive attitude and flexible approach to overtime
Relevant engineering qualifications are beneficial but not essential for experienced candidates.
