Job Role:

Workshop and Field Service Engineer based from our Client's West Horndon branch on the outskirts of Brentwood in Essex covering an array of sites and installations across the U.K., mainly within the South East but not limited to. Responsible for mechanical repairs and maintenance on rotating equipment such as large turbines, pumps, BFW multi‑stage units, and auxiliary / BOP equipment such as gearboxes, coolers, conveyors, valves, etc.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform mechanical maintenance; proficient in the use of measuring equipment such as micrometres, DTI’s and alignment tooling.
  • Mechanically undertake and complete Workshop and Field Service activities, including reporting detailing findings, condition assessments, critical tolerances, actions taken and recommendations.
  • Communicate on a technical level both verbally and in writing to peers and customers.
  • Fault find and diagnose mechanical equipment associated, but not limited to, the heavy engineering sector – working on rotating machines, balance of plant and auxiliary systems.
  • Conduct defect repairs and routine maintenance on mechanical equipment for commercial and heavy industry machinery and ancillary equipment, ensuring installations meet manufacturer standards and legislative requirements.
  • Work independently to identify and resolve faults and concerns on mechanical systems without explicit direction.
  • When required, assist and lead planned projects and outages as directed by peers.
  • Effectively manage own work schedule.

Desirable and Technical Skills:

  • Previous experience in the power sector: prime movers and BOP.
  • OEM pump and/or turbine experience.
  • Strong rotating equipment background.
  • Good technical abilities, measuring and reporting skills.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience within the heavy engineering sectors, good rotating equipment knowledge and hands‑on skills and abilities to maintain, repair, and overhaul pumps, turbines, valves, gearboxes, conveyors, coolers, etc.
  • A full driving license, preferably clean.
  • Self‑motivated to work independently but adaptable to work as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, clear concise and logical both verbally and in writing.
  • Fault‑finding, repair, installation and commissioning experience.
  • Good customer service skills.
  • Good level of fitness due to the physical demands of the job.
  • Able to pass security clearances.
  • Flexible and positive outlook.
  • Available for call‑out 1‑5.
  • Flexibility to work away from home when needed.
  • Relevant knowledge, training and experience within heavy engineering sectors specific to the requirements under roles and responsibilities.
