We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter for a long-term contract opportunity with a leading Tier 1 on a major energy infrastructure project based in Elstree. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically qualified fitter with GIS experience and a background in HV substations, power, oil & gas, or heavy industrial environments to join a high-profile project.
Please Note: Candidates must have GIS experience, a valid CSCS card, Grid Persons, and Slinger / Signaller certification. A Welder ticket would be highly advantageous.
The Role:
You will be working as part of the client's site team, supporting mechanical installation activities on a major substation project. Reporting directly to the Site Supervisor / Chargehand, you will play a key role in ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out mechanical installation and fitting activities as directed by site management
- Work in line with all QEHS procedures and site safety requirements
- Support site supervisors and chargehands with day-to-day installation activities
- Complete allocated task cards within required project timescales
- Highlight any delays, issues, or risks proactively
- Maintain full compliance with health & safety, environmental, and quality standards
- Assist with site documentation where required
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of timesheets and associated paperwork
- Work safely at all times, maintaining a duty of care for yourself and others on site
Requirements:
Essential:
- Apprentice trained OR NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in a relevant mechanical discipline
- Minimum 1-2 years' experience within electricity supply industry construction or similar environments
- Proven GIS mechanical fitting experience
- Experience working on:

- Power
- Oil & Gas
- Heavy Industrial Construction
- Valid CSCS Card or CCNSG Safety Passport
- Grid Persons
- Slinger / Signaller ticket
- Manual Handling
- Working at Height
