Profile: 5S Recruitment are delighted to be supporting a leading manufacturing business in the recruitment of a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for their Blackburn facility. This position offers the opportunity to join a highly successful plastics manufacturer operating a wide range of injection moulding and blow moulding machinery, automation systems, robotics and associated manufacturing equipment.

The Role: As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency and performance of manufacturing equipment across the site. You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving a variety of injection moulding machines, blow moulding machines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic equipment, automation systems and ancillary plant. This role is hands-on and all interviews will take place from a practical perspective, reviewing drawings and machine site on the shop floor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical maintenance, repair and fault finding on injection moulding and blow moulding machinery
  • Diagnosing and resolving complex hydraulic faults
  • Reading and interpreting hydraulic schematics and technical drawings
  • Supporting machine start-ups, machine setups and production activities
  • Working closely with production teams to minimise downtime and maximise efficiency
  • Conducting preventative maintenance activities across manufacturing equipment
  • Supporting engineering improvement and continuous improvement projects
  • Fault finding on hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Assisting with machinery upgrades and reliability improvements
  • Carrying out quality and safety-related engineering checks
  • Utilising workshop equipment including lathes, grinders and welding equipment where required

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong mechanical maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent hydraulic fault-finding ability

  • Proven mechanical problem-solving skills
  • Experience carrying out root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Experience with pneumatics
  • A proactive and hands-on approach to engineering maintenance
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Candidates with experience as a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Fitter, Hydraulic Engineer or Maintenance Technician are encouraged to apply. Experience within plastics manufacturing, injection moulding, blow moulding, packaging, FMCG or automated manufacturing environments would be highly advantageous.
