RTL Group are looking for a Senior Project Manager (Civils) who is responsible for the full management and successful delivery of allocated civil engineering projects within the region, reporting directly to the Regional Director. This role will lead all aspects of project execution, including commercial management, HSEQS compliance, programme delivery, resource planning and management of client and supply chain relationships. The successful candidate will be a strategic and hands‑on leader capable of driving operational excellence, mitigating project risk and ensuring successful stakeholder engagement across major civils and infrastructure schemes.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare project programmes, method statements, preliminaries and submission documentation.
  • Chair project start‑up and internal coordination meetings.
  • Develop procurement strategies alongside the commercial team and prequalify key supply chain partners for early awards.
  • Establish and manage Commercial Risk Registers and implement mitigation measures.
  • Collaborate with commercial teams to develop procurement schedules and monitor progress.
  • Ensure Health, Safety & Environmental plans are prepared, including Temporary Works Registers.
  • Coordinate site commencement activities with statutory authorities and stakeholders.
  • Define and implement project design strategies including BIM and design management processes where applicable.

Construction & Design Management

  • Manage subcontractor engagement, progress meetings and pre‑order reviews.
  • Manage project information flow and programme coordination.
  • Chair internal and subcontractor meetings and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Maintain and manage project critical paths.
  • Prepare contract reports and manage project preliminaries including extension of time applications alongside commercial teams.

Project Monitoring & Commercial Management

  • Review constructability and identify commercially beneficial delivery solutions.
  • Monitor site progress against programme and coordinate with subcontractors and site management teams.
  • Control and report project budgets and performance to stakeholders.
  • Implement quality management processes across delivery teams.
  • Present project updates during monthly commercial and operational review meetings.

Post-Construction

  • Ensure aftercare and commissioning activities are completed successfully.
  • Support commercial teams with final accounts and loss and expense submissions.
  • Complete project close‑out documentation and secure client feedback.
  • Maintain strong client and design team relationships to support future business opportunities.
  • Manage defects resolution processes through to final completion.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Strong understanding of CDM regulations and Behavioural Based Safety.
  • Temporary Works and Excavation Safety knowledge.
  • Experience managing lifting operations, scaffolding and work at height activities.
  • Proven experience delivering major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.

Desirable

  • Academic or professional qualification within a construction-related discipline.
  • Chartered status or working towards chartership.
